Summertime 10 2026

On 1st September, we held our first meeting of the 2026/27 season (on a Tuesday; the first time in many, many years) in our proposed new location at Newbury Rugby Club. Feedback from those members that were present (almost 3/4 of the club) was overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the proposed change of venue.
We also held our review of the Summertime 10 challenge that was held over the summer break, when members have the opportunity to photograph ten different themes. This year these themes were:
Golden Hour Capture early morning or late evening summer light with warm tones, silhouettes, and dramatic shadows.
Water in Motion Photograph waves, rain, pools, sprinklers, rivers, or fountains using different shutter speeds.
Summer Textures Focus on tactile details like sand, wood, grass, fruit skins, cracked pavement, or beach towels.
Heat Visually represent temperature through sun glare, haze, shadows, sweat, dry landscapes, or cold drinks.
Outdoor Nights Shoot bonfires, fireworks, camping scenes, festivals, stars, or city nightlife after sunset.
Fresh Food & Markets Capture colourful summer produce, barbecues, ice cream, picnics, or farmers market scenes.
Movement Freeze or blur action with bikes, runners, sports, carnival rides, pets, or ocean waves.
Reflections Use puddles, lakes, mirrors, windows, sunglasses, or shiny surfaces to create layered compositions.
Nature at Peak Growth Photograph gardens, forests, wildflowers, insects, birds, or lush green landscapes.
Summer Colours Build images around vibrant seasonal colors like turquoise water, sunset oranges, or tropical tones
We received an unprecedented 105 entries from 11 members, with quality entries across the board. A slightly chaotic and amusing vote by members saw Peter Thompson's set of 10 take the top spot, and these images can be found below (see if you can guess which is which!).
